Design Process

Detroit ‘67 reflects an American history not to be forgotten, emphasizing themes of community, resilience, loss, and hope. Produced in a ‘festival’-type setting, many of the creatives within this production were first-time designers, with a very small budget and tech schedule. This resulted in heightened collaboration, problem-solving, and a focus on our own little community within the production. Some extraordinary moments of this included props borrowed and donated by several people, actors creating paintings for the walls, and, in the end, a theatre filled with enlightenment, tears, and applause.
